So why do we need Ronaldo? Without his 42 goals last season would have United won the English Premiership and the Champions League double? First off though we got to remember, how many of those 42 goals he scored last season were of his own doing?

Manchester United is a team made up of team players not a bunch of individuals. The likes of Rooney, Giggs, Scholes, Carrick and the rest of the squad complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses. How many of these players especially Rooney have been a major part in Ronaldo scoring 42 goals last season? If Ronaldo thinks he is the best player in the world and that he single handed scored all the goals and won us the double, he is surely deluded and so are the United fans who think the same. United like I said earlier is a club made up of players that play as a team and not as a bunch of individuals. Ronaldo if he moves to Real will never ever achieve the same height of success as he did at Old Trafford. At Real Madrid Ronaldo just be one of the many individuals already present in their team.

Don’t get me wrong Ronaldo is an important player and has contributed immensely towards the successful season we had. However so has the rest of the Manchester United squad. The media though choose to only highlight the importance of Ronaldo which has been very deceiving. Rooney and Tevez contributed as many goals as Ronaldo but with many more assists, Carrick and Scholes scored some and had a hatful of assists, same with Giggs, Nani and the rest of the squad not forgetting the back four that has been solid as ever. The papers though choose to concentrate on Ronaldo, not because he is more important than anyone else at United but because he sells papers.

The way Ronaldo has conducted himself in face of all the rumours though in unforgiveable. He said yesterday that a few goals and the fans will forget but he has been grossly mistaken. I like many other Manchester United fans will find it very hard to cheer for a player who has not only humiliated the fans but the club as well. He has been lying to United’s fans constantly. First off during the end of last season he came out stating the he would appreciate that there won’t be any rumours about his future in the summer. Then before the Champions League final he came out and said he hasn’t decided where he will be next season igniting a series of rumours. Only after the final whistle to say in the post match interview that he will be sticking around. All this not only has alienated the fans but humiliated the club.

The club has supported him through hard times and made him the player he is now. It might have not been possible elsewhere so there should be some sort of respect been shown back at the fans and the club which Ronaldo has not shown. So best for him to be shown the door now with his price the highest, so we can make a healthy profit on an ungrateful player and get a few good talented youngsters who do want to play for the best club in the world.

One thing I know for sure though is that United will cope. We have lost many players before in Beckham, Stam, Ruud and Heinze recently and in the past as well when Fergie sold off the likes of Kanchelskis, Ince and Hughes who were important members of the squad. Each time we have come back strongly to win even more trophies. United made Ronaldo the player he is now and not the other way around. United were winning trophies before he came and will do so after! So if Ronaldo leaves, one thing is for sure, United will keep on winning. Ronaldo though, might not!
